I'm a steam fan and from a multi-generation railroad family, but why in the world should modern freight roads want steam excursions plugging up their routes and significantly increasing their liability?

Yes, there have been notably few injuries. That said, I've been around Roanoke for quite a few of 611's excursions since she's been back in service, and multitudes of railfans--those who claim to "know better", will NOT stay off the freaking right-of-way.

Gripe all you'd like, but the "community" bears a lot of responsibility for today's corporate anti-steam sentiment.
