Lisbon-Madrid is also waiting on the new segment through Toledo that will connect to Toledo-Madrid HSR. That is not yet under construction and the route was only chosen last year. Archeological digs for the tunnel site will likely cause delay.

So the initial Lisbon-Madrid service in a few years will probably be over 5 hours and not have high frequencies at the start. However Spain has opened new HSR track for the majority of Badajoz-Madrid, though much of it is single track for now.
