Looks to be the "Danish" sets that were looked at for Coastline services as well. I had a cab ride over Santa Suzanna on these. They were DMU's that could be rapidly separated from a six car train to two three cars sets, and was used on brancking services in Denmark. These had really cool interiors, with a club car complete with Danish "designer" wood formed tables with clever edge lips to keep drinks from from falling over, and really confortable seating. An example of how to serve multiple end point destinations, with one flexible trains set.
This was during the period when we were still in shock that folks had just turned down Anschutz's offer to sell the Coastline to the State for only $400 million.... This Danish equipmentand Talgo's were run as demostrations during this period.... Talgo's went up to ODOT And WashDOT services and the rest is history. I managed several tours for local elected officials, and caught cab rides on both sets, including (IIRC???) at least one demo run, by one of these sets, out to Riverside County.
