I think, that given the dubious limitations of communicating, in the 140 character world, that the last post by Tommy J was almost, dare I say, possibly even almost "comprehensible".... And so, in the name of harmony and peace.... Yes Tommy, there are many other opportunities for "high speed" regional rail connections from the IE to SD, although I think that options using the 15 or extending the Line or from South Perris, to Temecula, via the 215 corridor are viable and via RR Canyon and Elsinore is less so, partially due to the dam they built.
I explored the old California Southern route between Temecula and "Los Angeles" Junction, for a possible direct connection, to LOSSAN at Oceanside, with the proposed "high speed" line, via the Inland Empire to San Diego a few years back for a local official who was pushing the ML extension to Temecula, and possibly beyond.
It would be easily doable without flooding, using tunneling and a high bridge.
There is no shortage of better performing and less costly projects, in our congested corridors like that possibility, which based on current congestion and demand, would likely perform well.
Many of these are far better performing, with our limited funds, than what we are currently building between Chowchilla and Fresno.
All of these take imagination which is lacking, and funding which is always scarce, and which we are currently pi$$ing away by the bucketfull at the CHSRA.
