The megawatts required to run say 150 or 180 are megawatts that don't exist right now, you'd have to divert from somewhere else. And a continuous 125 in a diesel hauled train isn't a picnic either ie a 125 mph long distance diesel doesn't exist and isn't likely too either. You are talking about a multi unit set needing 10-12K hp for traction plus the head end power.
All these glorious "what if's and just do this", don't. Finish it to run 90-10, diesel hauled to get Fresno to Bako and Fresno to Merced on it's own ROW and some day in the future figure out how to do Bako to LA in true HSR.
