While Spreckles did have major interests in Hawaii, I do believe that the Spreckles Sugar Co concentrated on refining sugar beets, and was not connected with C&H which refined sugar cane. (I could be wrong, but that is from my brief research, done in the days I worked at 703 Market St in SF, which had been the Spreckles Building once upon a time -- the old office door knobs still had a stylized intertwined CS on them!)

RR connection - apparently Spreckles had its own narrow-guage railroad from the refineries to docks at Moss Landing (near Monterey.
