From my understanding the Tunnel 6 project was a completely different funding source, more driven by the county than the Commission. Basically, the Commission exhausted its capital budget getting the line to Eastgate, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds are what paid for the trackage into the canyon that exists. As far as I know the plans to rebuild more of the line are still on the table but unless a lot more money magically appears from somewhere it’s not likely to happen. The Commission sold the property it owned on Drako Road that was to be their permanent depot site and built some permanent structures at East Gate, which should tell you something.
