In one of the books from 4 Ways West, they recorded a Sunset consist leaving LAUPT in December 1970 of 24 cars IIRC. Several sleepers, many coaches, two (?) automats, and a diner-lounge. The tracks at LAUPT were meant for a maximum of 20 cars, so I imagine they had delays in loading due to the need to have passengers board and then find their way to the forward cars. I think that particular Sunset departed 4 hours late.
