First, the article you linked is a *commentary* piece written by Jon Coupal of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assoc.
*Not* by the editorial staff of the Daily Breeze.
Second, how many seats per day does SW offer at $50 per ticket?
Only SW knows and they won't tell you - or Jon Coupal - the exact numbers for competitive reasons.
Like all major airlines, they use 'yield management' to dynamically adjust seat availability at different price points. Ticket prices vary by date and time of day. Prices can even change during the day, depending on supply & demand.
Last-minute walk-up tickets for SJC to BUR: $341 to $224.
Mid-week (Weds-Thurs) and Sat/Sun: $329 to $199.
One-month (or more) in the future: $214 to $84.
At the time of writing, there are exactly zero tickets offered at $49.
And those occasional $49 tickets offered by SW? They are specials, for a very limited number of seats on each flight, for a limited timeframe. SW would stop flying in California if they sold $49 tickets for all seats, every flight on every day.
Jon Coupal knows that.
100% intellectual dishonesty.
