Will voters approve a tax extension measure for SMART?
According to the NTD in FY 2021, non-fare revenues (local and state tax dollars)
were $196 per boarding. Yes, the subsidy has fallen with some of the ridership recovered.
In FY 2022 it was $75 per boarding. But, their latest numbers suggest this year will
be even more than that!
Given that it was $34 per boarding when voters rejected Measure I, does
SMART have a chance of winning back the voters it lost in 2020 relative
to those that originally supported the tax in 2008?
SMART's dissolution will be on the ballot whenever they
decide to go for it. Has a public rail transit agency ever been dissolved by
voters...ever?
This just may be the first that is.
