Works well the other way too. A startup company can claim huge percentage increases from sales early on. Same thing when you start with a small amount of stocks and one of them shoots for the stars while the others just don't lose too much. True, starting from zero means the initial period is either infinite or undefined (the latter is technically correct). Still take % changes that are divorced from the actual numbers with several shakers (if not truckloads) of salt.
