Amtrak is infamous, from my career experience, for failing to do very much effective targeted marketing for the CA corridors. The local agencies often have done that with little cooperation.
While we have had some great folks at Amtrak CA who have been great working with the locals, and have tried to help with that, Amtrak HQ has generally been quite useless. Amtrak has no problem using LOSSAN photos for nice adds, but actually advertising service levels or prices in those markets has been mostly done by the corridor agencies.
One must remember that in the corporate culture of Amtrak, that California is still a very long way out in the distant "provinces" from Amtrak's HQ in Philadelphia (which is Amtrak's center of the NEC universe), and Amtrak Marketing in Philadelphia has been notoriously impervious to requests for targeted corridor focused advertising and marketing in the California corridors.
However, there are some great Amtrak travel deals right now, as they are introducing new and restored services to places like Montreal.
