Here's a photo taken on September 06, 2000, TWENTY-THREE years ago, of a 25-car WATCO Blue Mountain Railroad grain train on the Pleasant Valley Branch, which was formerly operated by Union Pacific before they decided to spin off most of their branch lines in the Pacific Northwest. The train is running along the Palouse River, headed for Winona, WA where it will join the Tekoa Branch and eventually make its way to a connection with the UP at Hooper Junction, WA. The railroad now operates under the name Palouse River & Coulee City and has trackage rights over the UP from Hooper Junction to Wallula where it can interchange with the BNSF.
The train was easy to chase as it was only doing about 5 to 10 miles per hour on this portion of the railroad.
