I recall it was Schneider that jumped ship. I'm thinking MONEY (i.e. -rates ) is the big reason; though the Sales Dept. SCHMOOZE enters into the deal as well. Sometimes a top sales rep will switch employers & steal away a top account from the old place; I saw it happen many times when I was driving LTL. Either way I'm not sure that the switch will improve service levels much, ( it usually didn't in LTL ) considering that both RR's are short of crews and have been for quite some time.
