Where is it...?

Don't know... Could be Taylor (or possibly down in the Links?), not enough background hills or mountains to see where, from this angle if it is...

These ran on the Bakerfield runs when first bought to augment those cab forwards due to high tractive effort...

These engines purportedly had "marine" diesel engines that were supposedly also used on Liberty ships, and were really slow to rev up and load.

Kicking cars, you put it in run 8, held the jam down, and waited for amperage to build, and then released the jam... A real pain in the ass to switch cars with... Wind em up, then have a cup of coffee, and wait a couple of hours, until they were ready to move...

They had good six axle braking, though. So when I ran them, they had been long relegated to yard service in the Taylor C yard working as "pull downs" from the B yard hump tracks, and on things like haulers to places like the Cornfield/Bull Ring/Links. This was all "down hill" work, pulling hump yard cuts without air in Taylor, so the six axles of braking, were good for handling airless cuts, and they had enough power (once they finally did load...)to shove heavy cuts up into the bottom of C yard tracks.

Another unit popular with rail fans, not so much of those who had to run them...
