I wonder if having so many different types of equipment deployed throughout the system is actually cost effective. I'm familiar with the arguments in favor of the Superliners, e.g. lower weight per seat than conventional equipment, but maybe it would have been better to base the equipment pool on the idea that any single piece of equipment could be deployed as needed anywhere within the system. You know, the old Pullman pool model.
