For those of you who like railroads and really great railroad folks, I have just received the sad news that Stan Garner has passed away...
Those of you who may have had the good fortune to know Stan, and/or take many of the great trips with him on the Pony Express, or worked with him on many films over his long career, will know what a great guy Stan was, and of his vast RR experience and knowledge...
An original member of the Monrovia Model Railroad Club, he participated in arranging several fan trips on the Pony, and a reunion run of that group, in the business car, to the Grand Canyon a few years back...
Stan was actually my very first "railroad" employer, laying some "dual gauge" track, for an early piece of narrow-gauge steam that he and Bill Oden owned, which later became the genesis of the "movie train", out on the old ATSF Alta Loma spur in 1969...
His book on the movie train is a great resource on RR filmmaking, and the operations on what is today the Sierra in Ventura County...
Stan was also just a really great guy, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him...
