The INP was a viable short line after it was acquired from the UP. There was a Boise-Cascade log mill in Cascade and a huge lumber mill/yard in Horseshoe Bend. I rode with the crews a couple of times and filmed that route and it was one of the most scenic trips I have been on as it follows the South bank of the Payette River from a carved out roadbed many feet above that river. It crossed the river a few time. Stop at Smiths Ferry to set retainers for the steep drop from there to Horseshoe Bend.
It was a very scenic ride and although I never rode it when it became the tourist rail (Thunder Mountain) I have read it was a pretty successful operation hauling rafters and sight seers. Just sad that it was shut down. It also had one of the shortest tunnels in the world - a chunk of granite you went under. ahhhhhhh,. good memories.
