Given the handle, and the veracity of this purpoted (but unlinked...) job posting, this may or may not be a relevant question... Why?
But I thought that the person who could answer it best would be the good Doctor... As he seems to have the most recent and relevant information, I've seen posted on AP about Amtrak Crew Agreements these days...
Why would Amtrak be hiring at a job base like SLO, wouldn't they hire new trainee's for the West Coast "Division" of Amtrak, and qualify them on respective sections?
And why wouldn't qualified conductors bid these potentially highly preferred home base assignments, like SLO, on the basis of seniority?
I can sure understand why hourly pay slows passenger trains..."But Amtrak insisted...", and there have clearly been other significant changes to working rules...
But is this real, and why would they train someone to qualify just at/for SLO (as crew base for??? LOSSAN, Starlate, or pray tell a "Daylight" some distant day...? It seems odd...?
