I was a park ranger back in 1974, crashing in the old White Pass office on my weekly trips to town. Will never forget what a 24 hour railroad town Skagway was. Ore trains all night and local and thru passenger trains all day with the piggy-back RV's and containers. Those empty ore trains heading east could be heard for a half hour or more and the five chime echoes never stopped. Four units on the point, two in the middle, sometimes two in front of the caboose. When the ore boat was in the only saloon in town was a dangerous place.
