This past winter I was on the Zephyr, following behind the Fun Train. When we got to Sacramento, we pulled up alongside them. The train was virtually empty---the coaches weren't even half-full, and the great dome had 3 people in it. I later learned that the Fun Train began taking off some cars before departing Oakland, simply because they could not fill the seats. Maybe in a better economy it gets crowded, but I think they may have struggled a bit this last season.
