Great Northern did not haul the entire train complete with ( idling ) steam locomotive through the newer 8 mile long tunnel.
Electric locomotives were used almost exclusively between Skykomish and Wenatchee, WA., until the early 1950's. The passenger trains employed steam generator cars; some rebuilt from baggage cars.
