Not Nuts...Just Adventurous

The location is Sunset Falls on BNSF's Stevens Pass near Index, WA.
It darn sure is a beauty of a shot Steve!
But no, Steve is not the only person who's shot from there, or from further back on the road. And he's not nuts, as I'm sure he's a careful mountain man kinda guy, which you would need to be to be getting the great elevated kinds of shots he's been posting.
With that said, though, a WARNING is warranted to all who would shoot in Stevens Pass and wet terrain like it. The rocks there are covered in moss and detritus (forest deadfall) that looks like "normal" ground cover where the rock doesn't protrude. However...it should be noted that the moss "matt" IS NOT attached securely to the rock, as it is often undercut by rain run-off and river flow. The point being: you can be walking or standing on a nice soft mossy matting on this type of rock outcropping and have the entire thing slip out from under you like an old bathtub mat on a wet floor.
Don't ask me how I know this ;^D
And if such a thing had occurred, you would have an extremely rough ride down several hundred feet of rocky outcropping into an icy pool of fresh Cascade runoff at the bottom of the falls, thereby ruining your camera and causing damage to the natural habitat. Not to mention nearly drowning, or worse.
BUT, as I said, Steve is no neophyte so I know he was smart enough not to be standing or walking near the edge on moss...he would have been firmly perched on dry rock. And like Drew said, whatever he decided to do to get the shot (provided he as off the property and didn't interfere with the rails operating their trains), it is his business as to how he got the shot and I, for one, am thankful he posted if for all of us to enjoy.
Thanks Steve, and well done!
