Amtrak #6 at East Verdi

In February of 1975, Saigon had not fallen to the Viet Cong but people watching Gerald Ford play golf were finding themselves in mortal danger. All that seemed far away as Amtrak's San Francisco Zephyr crossed the Truckee River at the East end of Verdi, NV, on the way to its station stop in Reno. SDP40F is leading but, although only recently placed in service, it would be retired before the decade was out.
