In the newsline, there is mention of 72000 passengers in the first year behind the 18 on the V&T. I assume that most of them are expected at the Drako Road terminal. In a trip to the site a week ago, there was too much traffic in late afternoon on highway 50 to turn left for the long drive to Carson City, so I turned right towards Mound House, not very far, where I could reverse direction. Is the politically connected railroad planning a stoplight on this federal highway? It is hard to do, but I hope so.
Most of the tourists coming to this attraction are probably coming from Reno/I-80, by car. Until this trip, I hadn't realized how close Virginia City is to Reno by way of the Gieger Grade. It is an interesting question to see whether people will take a drive every bit as long [to 'Carson City'] for the priveledge of riding a 'new'steam train. The other choice is to drive directly to Virginia City, and riding the existing train from there. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm having a problem picturing the other 71,999 riders that first year. reh
