Infrastructure aside, it's interesting to note that Spain's current AVE high speed trains are of three different designs from three different manufacturers.

The original Madrid-Seville route uses trainsets based on the Alsthom French TGV; the Madrid-Barcelona route has trainsets from TALGO (the AVE 102) and from Siemens (the AVE 103, based on the ICE3 built for German Railways.

All of these are standard gauge, the standard for the Spanish HSR routes. Spanish National Railways also operates broad gauge (5'-6'') versions of the TGV in its Euromed services and, of course, has operated broad gauge and variable gauge versions of the TALGO throughout the country since the 1950s.

With respect to the rolling stock, apparently even the Spanish can't decide on one standard other than the gauge.
