Hi Mike,
I read your question and just now, phoned a friend who I used to work nites with. 539 was moved about 3 weeks ago from her old place on track 2 to out at the end of track 4, which used to be called the oil track when I was there. It's sitting next to a piece of MOW equipment and is for sale. Would make a great engine for the SLRG in Alamosa.
Your comment about BNSF brings back memories...when I worked morning hostler, we used to put a fire in the locomotive around 4:20A, about the time number 4 would go by. Some crews would give us a short toot on the horn and we'd answer with a soft whistle so as not to disturb those fortunate in town to still be in bed.
Did I get the number correct? 3 and 4?
Best to you.
