The Sandpoint depot "restoration" is cosmetic only. They got a little bit of money included in the bypass project just because the new road is going to pass just a few feet from it. That west side will look nice, but the east side (facing the tracks) is literally falling apart. Long term plans are for a new Amshack to be built at the road leading to Schweitzer Ski area. After that, it will be up to some local historical society to keep the thing standing. The BNSF had a local crew that "officially" went on duty there up until a year or so ago. After that, a signal maintainer used a part of it, but he has also had other accomodations set up somewhere else. Amtrak staffs the building for a few hours a day and now pays all of the utility bills. They have allowed the BNSF combination flagman for the by-pass project AND the Long Bridge project to use the place during the day, which will be the case for the next 2 years or so.
