Nevertheless, --- Tesla has been reported in the local media and in Autophile columns, as looking for space - a very large space - to build a major manufacturing plant to make thousands of electric cars per year. The local governments have been involved in trying to site this facility for some time, and Federal stimulus has been offered to help build it.


Will a Tesla facility actually be viable on it own? Maybe.

Will continued Toyota production be viable on its own? Maybe, but Toyota itself is questioning that.

Will Tesla be viable in joint venture with Toyota? Much more likely.

Will Toyota be viable in joint venture with Tesla? Again, Much more likely.



It is not in my expertise to decide on the viability of any of this.

But it seems a no-brainer and a half; that we as a people should insist that such an idea be thoroughly vetted by those with the expertise; before Toyota makes any final decision to give up Nummi, throwing several thousands more out of work; as well as before public funds are used to build a new facility while a perfectly good factory goes idle just down the street.
