The Uintah 50 and 51 were near mechanical twins to the NdeM 3ft. 2-6-6-2's. The Mexican
engines tended to look a lot larger account of the tender and also the tube bundle up by
the stack for the feedwater heater, but because of their 1" larger drivers, were just a
tad less on the t.e.
I knew 3 people in Guatemala who had experience with the 250 and 251, the former Uintah &
Sumpter Valley engines. They were tried over both Divisions and finally settled down to
working freights between Mazatenango and Escuintla. Their tonnage rating for the 16 miles
of 3.7% on Palin Hill was 250 tons, while the 150 series 2-8-2's was 200 tons.
It is a shame that one of each type was not still with us...you can just imagine riding
behind one out of Chama up to Cumbres!
