It has been a long time since I looked at shortline economics, but my recollection was it cost approximately $5,000 per year to maintain a signalled road crossing without gates. But the cost has probably gone up. And a mile and a half of track would have cost somewhere around 5,000 - 7,500 per year to maintain, so the total would be somewhere in the $10,000 - 12,500 range about 10 years ago. If Stan answers you might get some better updated numbers, although he may not want to give away any proprietary cost data.
