An interesting place - and great pictures.

Notice what appears to be under-running third rail on the main lines. Anyone know the particulars. Are they still used? How are/were they operated - etc.?

And also notice the low ground signals on all the mains, just a bit off the end of each the platform. They appear to be mainline interlocking home signals. So, being on what appear to be the main tracks, why are they all low to the ground, instead of at least those approached with the "current of traffic", being up high where they could be more easily visible - further out.



I've never managed to ever get over to the East Coast, to figure such oddities out myself. Any clarification or speculation on the questions would be appreciated. - THNX
