City sues railroads over damage to street
There is more to this story than is reported. Junction city has had a long history of hostility to both railroads that run through the town. For example JC police will not participate in operation life saver. They do not respond or are slow to respond to requests for help from the UP. It is true the OE tracks on Holly st are in bad shape but the real irritation for the politicos in town is they want the railroad out of town so they can turn Holly st into the northbound lane of hwy99 as part of the big economic development plan. Indeed talking to some of them they blindly do not see the value of railroads at all. Over the years I have lived there I have seen engineers running "light engine" stop at McDonalds but do not recall a train being stopped there.
