TALGO steps

The Oregonian of about Fourth of July carried a front page story entitled "Oregon bids big for faster trains". Most of you have read all or part of the article. The core of the article was UP (SP) or BNSF (SP&S / OE).

The photo, of passengers boarding at Union Station, Portland, shows how completely TALGO and the two states violated the ADA accessibility rules. IMNSHO, TALGO got away with it because they knew that they were the only source of lightweight and reversible train sets.

Regarding steps: TALGO should have included retracting legal steps (and possibly handrail)down to 8" above rail height, operated by the conductor at any door.

Maintenance and replacability? YUP
