Logging in North Idaho is on the second to fifth growth forests, massive fires around the turn of the century pretty well eliminated all the old growth that was left. Most, if not all, of what is being harvested is replanted timber. Problems now are arising with tree huggers not wanting to allow the harvest of planted timber. Even timber planted where no timber was ever around before, i.e. Hinkle, Or. area, Wallula, Wa area is now being challenged by enviros when time comes to harvest, the challenge being "adopted habitat" for one---as in animals moving into the man made forests must now have the man made habitat preserved. Glad I'm retired, don't think I have what it takes to do business any more---I'd probably end up shooting someone or myself!!!
