One minor clarifcation. Tommy Thompson never actually expanded his line onto the BNSF ROW. He had hoped to, and I think he may even have re-gauged a short section of the track as an experiment, but nothing ever came of it.
He passed away due to an illness quite a few years ago. I was at the railroad on the last day it ran, spent the day with Tommy and ran the engine some of the trips along with Tommy and his sons. It was still on the same route, between the two turntables.
I think the line was steamed up twice more after he passed away, at a memorial service and possibly one other time.
The equipment is now stored at the Georgetown Power Plant museum.
As others have mentioned, the trail and trestle were named after him.
