The LA-LV corridor ought to be a place where high speed rail is up and running now. It's a natural, in Vegas terms.
The nostalgic folks who want to run the reinstate the old, tired Desert Wind again don't get it. LA-LV needs a fast train and without useless stops (which consume time) at Barstow, etc. The train needs to serve the Strip, not beat-up downtown Las Vegas.
Any convention train between the two city pairs needs its own rail some of the way. There is ample congestion when lots of trains move and Cima Hill is an obstacle. On top of that, who will run it? Amtrak has shown no interest of late in any such train service.
