When BNSF decided to give the route from Silsbee west to Timber Rock Railroad, there were about 2 round trip BNSF Through Freights that used it from Beaumont to Somerville. The typical executive "know it all" decision was, "Oh there are plenty of tracks in the Houston Area that those 4 trains can use! It won't hurt Houston at all!! Not one bit!" Needless to say lower management wasn't asked their opinion in the matter (before the lease to Timber Rock) and even if they had, they wouldn't have cared what lower management had to say. But when those 4 additional trains were dumped on BNSF Houston management and they couldn't even handle what they had (in Houston) already, then BNSF management learned what UP management has learned in the past 9 years in that if it has through freight on it and is a by-pass to a major area like Houston, DON'T get rid of it, or you will screw yourself! This should also explain why all of the sudden, BNSF isn't shedding lines like this one right and left like they were until about a year ago.
