C'mon, now. There appears to be plenty of demand for increased service, even with current equipment at current speeds on current routes. Caltrans (with the support of all the Central Coast cities & counties) has been working hard to get new Coast Route service between San Francisco & LA (possibly by extending the 2 current San Luis Obispo Surfliners).

The hold up has not been any doubt about demand -- it has been the 3 issues that ALWAYS hold up new passenger service: (1) money, (2) availability of equipment, & (3) cooperation of the "host" "freight" railroad (usually, in California, UP).
