BNSF still maintains several cabooses at its Vancouver and Longview, Wash. yards for use as shove platforms on locals. Union Pacific, until recently, had kept an ex-SP caboose out in the Parkrose area of northeast Portland (along the Kenton Line) to use as a shove platform for several industries along the line.
On a trip down to the Anaheim area in November 2005, I spent some time up at the Fullerton depot and photographed several BNSF locals using ex-Santa Fe cabooses fro shove platforms (and ex-ATSF GP30s for power!). I'm going down there again next week and will have the opportunity to see if they're still doing this.
