Built by Pullman-Standard for the Northern Pacific in June 1944 under Authorization for Expenditure AFE 5079-43, NP 28129 and NP 28417 were built to the design of an all steel car but due to steel shortages during World War Two wood sides were substituted. In March 1970 Burlington Northern was created and the 28129 remained in revenue service until 1974 under its NP reporting marks. In September 1974 Burlington Northern placed the car into maintenance of way service under AFE 74-606 with new reporting marks being BN 950289. The 28417 remained in revenue service until February 1976 when Burlington Northern placed the car into maintenance of way service under AFE 75-3073 with new reporting marks being BN 950362. Both cars were purchased by the Northwest Railway Museum in the 1980’s.
