A number of cars were purchased off the BN disposal bidlist in the 1980's. We were one of the few if only museum allowed to bid. Most of the cars we got off the list went for $200 and that included delivery by BN to the Weyerhaeuser Mill via the former MILW tracks. While we picked out the better of the cars for their historical value they also provided very cheap storage for a basic 9' x 40' building. $200 wouldn't even buy 25% of the 2x4's to frame a shed.
Other cars such as the Shell tankcars, Western Fruit Express refrigerator, Great Northern Auto Boxcars, etc. were donated with a reduced shipping rate from BN. In 1990 the bridge across the Snoqualmie River was destroyed severing our connection to the outside world but shortly after that BN removed the tracks to the mill. Anything now has to be trucked.
