I've looked at the slide under a loupe, and I'd guess both trains are westbound. I cannot see any evidence of power on the end. Keep in mind, that PRS made many fantrips during the late 50's, through the 60's and early 1970's. I have a group of slides from a Poppy Pickers Special over the Tehachapis, but they were taken with a camera that had a mediocre lens, and it's quite a tragic experience seeing them projected.
