This day in Railroad History
February 24, 1891
The Kansas and Arkansas Valley Railway was granted a 3 year extension to build on, by an Act of Congress, rights-of-way through Indian Territory. No definate location maps have yet been filed, but the company tendered a draft for the payment of $2444 for the annual tax of $15 per mile for passing through Indian Territory. The K&AVR was a predecessor the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern, which became part of the Missouri Pacific Railroad
