Perhaps the photo of Amtrak #457 got caught up in the server glitch...

The depot layout in the first photo looks about the same as when I saw it on my first visit to San Diego, in September 1971 while in the U.S. Navy. It was right at the dawn of Amtrak, and I recall seeing much of the old Santa Fe, SP and other railroad rolling stock Amtrak used on the San Diegan service. At one of the grade crossings just north of the depot, I remember a classic wigwag still in use.

My next visit was in November 2003 while on a Red Cross disaster assignment, and I was astonished at the transformation (platforms, palm trees, Pacific Surfliner, light rail, Coaster, etc.) It had become as busy an intermodal depot as any found elsewhere in the U.S.
