Take a look at the Yeasu/Vertex VX-150 or the VX-170. They are 2 meter HTs that are very sensitive and also selective in the RR bands. Plus they are both computer programmable. I own a VX-150 and it's now the only radio I use for Railroads now a days. There's a bit of a learning curve but it has 200+ channels and is VHF only so you get the selectivity since your front end is not having to let in DC to Daylight. More is not always better in radios. I know people with the 170 and they like them also. The VX-150 is around $120.00 or so, cheap for a good radio, it's hard to beat.
