This afternoon, Sierra Northern GP20 #40 ran light to Davenport to pick up the last of the cement hoppers stored at the CEMEX plant. After a lot of switching moves, the left with the remaining hoppers as well as a number of LPG tank cars. Between Davenport and Bonny Doon the tanks were cut off in one of the sags common on that branch and #48 headed on toward Santa Cruz and Watsonville. Seen North of Laguna Beach, the train headed South under some rather gloomy skies.
Leaving the street trackage on Beach St. in Santa Cruz, they pass the venerable Boardwalk Casino and Coconut Grove Lounge. During WWII, the Grove served as a recovery facility for wounded service men.
