Neat stuff Steve - thanks for posting 'em. Kind of my old stomping grounds, as I grew up near there in the 60's and 70's. Took a couple of memorable caboose rides out of the Nampa yards, courtesy of a friendly conductor - no way a kid could do that today! Union Pacific operated a very interesting network of branch lines in the area too, which never recieved much railfan attention. Railfans were a rare breed in Idaho. The long lonely Burns branch out into the east Oregon desert, the New Meadows line (nee P&IN) up into the Hells Canyon country. The "South Side line" to Marsing, a branch built to mainline standards since it was intended to extend to Twin Falls and beyond and serve as an alternate mainline through Idaho, and the most scenic of all, the Idaho Northern branch to McCall. The Boise, Nampa & Owyhee (Stoddard Branch) which never reached the Owyhee mining country. The Butte, Boise & San Francisco, a nondescript branch out across the flats to Wilder, but it figured significantly in the Harriman-Hill wars. It was part of the C&NW incursion into UP territory. At one time or another I rode or explored all of them, but took only a few poor-quality pictures, mostly instamatic color prints which didn't last. Nearly all gone now, only the Wilder branch and portions of the Burns and Idaho Northern lines are still in existance.
