Speaking of restaurants up the West Valley, there's a classic old Basque place in Maxwell.

I checked out Mare Island about a month ago. There were two or three passenger cars inside Alstom's building, as well as the San Francisco Bay Railroad's repowered (ex-Navy) Baldwin that switches the place. I followed all the trackage I could, and found no evidence of any other rail traffic on the island. I'm not sure where CFNR interchanges with SFBRR, but I assume it's on the mainland side of the causeway. I assume operations are very sporadic, but I'd appreciate any info that others may have.
