The last train operated out of the valley in October of 1992. The rails were pulled if my memory is correct in 1997 and 1998. At that time the Lucky Friday was the only mine shipping via rail. They later hauled ore by truck to Superior, MT and then via MRL to East Helena for a period of time.
The Sunshine shipped to East Helena to the ASARCO Smelter there in the old days. There was a loading ramp at Shont(at the mouth of Big Creek) for the UP and also one near Silverton that was also used for the NP and later BN.
